VCO is now getting global reputation as the healthiest and versatile oil in the world. Indonesia is one of the best sources of virgin coconut oil and it''s popularity in the country is legendary. Virgin Coconut Oil can only be achieved by using fresh coconut meat or what is called non-copra. Chemicals and high heating are not used in further refining, since the natural, pure coconut oil is very stable with a shelf life of several years.

Virgin coconut oil and regular coconut oil is rich in Lauric Acid, an essential fatty acid that is only found in high concentrations in mother''s milk. When taken internally, Lauric Acid turns into a compound known as Monolaurin. It is this compound that is believed to fight viral pathogens that protects the body from bacteria, viruses and infections from parasites. Coconut oil also causes the metabolic rate to increase, hence helps reduce weight and is safe and beneficial for diabetics.

1. Quick drying of fresh coconut meat which is then used to press out the oil. Using this method, the coconut meat is quick dried, and the oil is then pressed out via mechanical means.
2. Wet-milling. With this method the oil is extracted from fresh coconut meat without drying first. "Coconut milk" is expressed first by pressing. The oil is then further separated from the water. Methods which can be used to separate the oil from the water include boiling, fermentation, refrigeration, enzymes and mechanical centrifuge.

Difference between Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) and Regular (RBD) Coconut Oil
RBD stands for Refined, Bleached, and Deodorized. Ordinary coconut oil usually comes from copra - coconut meat that is dried by either smoke, kiln or placing under the sun. Because the process itself is not sanitized, the oil must be further refined. To get more oil from copra, chemicals are usually used. RBD process is required to make the oil clear, odor free and tasteless. This procedure also removes the anti-oxidant and other properties of the oil. Some coconut oils are also hydrogenated which increases the serum cholesterol levels and thus is bad for the heart. While virgin coconut oil, being pure, unadulterated and unhydrogenated retains it''s pleasant coconut taste, smell and all the health benefits of coconut oil. So,one of the main differences between Virgin Coconut oil and refined coconut oils is the scent and taste. All Virgin Coconut Oils retain the fresh scent and taste of coconuts, whereas the copra-based refined coconut oils have a bland taste due to the refining process. Some grades of refined copra-based oils are also now sold that have a coconut flavor, but are usually bitter and have a burnt taste to it. They are a form of "crude coconut oil" that has not undergone all of the deodorizing process, and they have a shorter shelf-life.

Movie Review of Crazy Sexy Cancer By Eli Edwin Casimero

I just saw the movie Crazy Sexy Cancer by Kris Carr and this is my shooting from the hip review, my knee jerk reaction. Actually, I was reacting as I was watching the film. I was once ignorant myself, just like her, in the start of the movie. My so-called incurable eczema was a better teacher, because I could see it everyday, no need for those special diagnostic equipment Kris Carr had to endure.
What first struck me was I could feel and see her FEAR. FEAR was in the air. Just because some doctor diagnosed her with some kind of cancer, there was so much FEAR, fear that this was incurable, that she was going to die. Good thing she didn't try chemotherapy, radiation or surgery as her tumors were beyond reach of their medical technology.
It was painful for me to watch all those ignorant people in the movie... FEAR was killing them. There was one woman who was being consumed by pharmaceutical drugs!
I was unhappy Kris consumed so much grains at the start of the movie... that was a recipe for disaster. I was happy Kris stumbled upon Dr. Robert Young of PH Miracle fame, then the Hippocrates Center. What was unlucky for her was that these were closed minded, low-fat, raw vegan approaches. Raw vegan has a time and place, and it should be temporary. What was unlucky for her was that she hadn't stumbled upon doing the detoxes... she did see the colon cleanses in the alternative healing convention but didn't do it, nor did she do any liver flushes. What was unlucky for her was she hadn't stumbled upon Hulda Clark and parasite killing. What was unlucky for her was she hadn't stumbled on pollution avoidance... she still wore make up.
I don't know if Kris Carr continued to take birth control pills, that would be a big culprit.
I am happy for her that her efforts had put her tumors on hold, but I would like to inspire her that that isn't enough. Never accept disease. Fight with knowledge, fight with self experimentation. Kris is a good candidate to view my Cancer Cure Manual website. Make a checklist of what she has missed.
Kris must know there are levels beyond raw vegan diets, just add raw animal foods (wild ocean fish, grass pasture fed or wild land animals). I didn't see Kris do any fasting. Orange juice fasting would have been great. VCO detoxing would have done her wonders.

Not all Fats are Bad By Dianne Ronnow

Fats have been unfairly lumped together as being all bad for too long. Fat doesn't necessarily cause disease, and can actually cause a role in its prevention. The truth is that some fats are very bad for us and some fats are actually very good for us.
Time has shown us that diets that restrict all fats fail in terms of weight loss. Since the end of World War II, Americans have been told that they need to restrict saturated fat in their diets. So we switched to margarine from butter, and did what we could to restrict fat. We have been constantly told that the reason for our health problems is that we still eat too much fat, especially saturated fats.
Since Americans have been told to eat a low fat diet to lose weight, the results are that nearly two thirds of adult Americans are now classified as overweight and more children are overweight now than ever before. Obviously something is wrong. That is because we need special kinds of fats in our diets that we are not getting.
If you are like me, you grew up being told that vegetable oils were the good oils and saturated fats were the bad ones. Now we are finding out that it is just the opposite. Diets that are moderate to high in "good" saturated fats and oils such as coconut oil and olive oil are actually very good for us. They raise good cholesterol levels and lower bad cholesterol, blood glucose and blood pressure. As a matter of fact, people who started adding at least 4 tablespoons of coconut oil to their diets every day, have found that they can now lose weight when they could not before on a fat restricted diet. Sometimes the addition of these oils even helps with their health problems.
It turns out that the bad guys are polyunsaturated oils, which carry toxic fatty acids (long chain fatty acids or LCT's). These LCT's tend to produce fat in the body. Polyunsaturated oils are the vegetable oils we commonly see in the grocery store, such as soy, corn, cottonseed, rapeseed and safflower.
We have been told that they lower cholesterol, but they way that they do is not healthy, as it ends up collecting in the liver. These oils are easily oxidized and damaged by free radicals. When cooked they become rancid in a few hours, even in the refrigerator. This causes damage to our body at a cellular level, the end results showing up as problems like diabetes, cancer, hypothyroidism and heart disease. And if that is not enough, these oils help us to get fat, lower the metabolic rate in our bodies, help suppress the thyroid function and cause our skin to age quicker.
Trans-fat is one of the worst bad guys. Trans-fatty acids often appear on ingredient labels as hydrogenated or partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. It is what they do to vegetable oils to make them into hard fats such as margarine and vegetable shortening. It is used in the prepared food industry in baked goods like cookies, crackers, and most supermarket peanut butter to prolong the shelf life. These bad fats are used almost exclusively in fast foods that are fried. When heated and eaten, they turn into something like poison in your system, because your body can not process this kind of chemically made fat. Trans-fats not only increase levels of bad cholesterol, but they will decrease levels of good cholesterol in the blood stream and trans-fatty acids have been linked to heart disease, cancer and diabetes. Fats such as margarine and shortening should be totally avoided, as well as foods items that contain them.
The United States FDA is finally catching up to this truth, and by January 2006 they will be requiring food products to label the amount of trans-fat they have in them.) What is frightening is that trans-fats are found in over 40% of the products on our supermarket shelves.
The fatty acid chains in coconut and olive oil are medium-chain fatty acids (MCT's) and they promote weight loss by increasing the body's metabolism to create energy. Coconut oil has become popular lately, because it has been discovered that coconut oil is nature's richest source of MTC's. If you decide to add coconut oil to your diet, it is recommended that you purchase virgin coconut oil (VCO), usually found in health food stores, because it from the best part of the coconut and has not been chemically bleached and heat processed. It is better for cooking than olive oil, because olive oil can be damaged by the heat of cooking, making it similar to the other vegetable oils in the body when cooked.
Even saturated fat from animals is not as bad as it once was thought to be, especially if it is from organically raised animals (free range and grass fed). Organic butter has a very high conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) content, which helps us lose weight and gain muscle. But non-organic meats may still be dangerous because of the way the animals were raised or fed. Most grocery store meats are filled with hormones, pesticides, medicines and unhealthy fat that gets transferred to us when we eat it.
Organic grass fed and free range meat and eggs avoid these problems, and give us a much healthier source of protein and saturated fat. Organic saturated fats and oils are actually good for you and should be eaten daily. The body needs these fats for healthy functioning.
So, forget the guilt and fry up that range-fed chicken in some coconut oil and enjoy!

Seaton et al in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, people who ate foods containing MCFAs (like the lauric acid in coconut oil) increased their metabolic rate an average of 12%, compared to a 4% increase for those eating meals with long-chain fatty acids (LCTs). The authors concluded that adding MCFAs and MCFA-rich foods (like coconut oil) to the diet could "over long periods of time produce weight loss even in the absence of reduced (caloric) intake". Doesn't that sound good? They are saying that you could eat the same amount of calories and still lose weight if you include MCFA-rich food like coconut oil in your diet!
Add Coconut Oil To Your Diet
Coconut oil is nature's richest source of these medium-chain fatty acids, which in addition to increasing metabolism have many other health-enhancing properties. So if you are trying to lose weight, you might want to think about adding coconut oil to your diet. Although we would not call it a miracle, we do think it has its place in many diets, especially if you are trying to lose weight.
