Therapeutic Benefits of Virgin Coconut Oil – A Testimony

Picture taken from here

Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) which is rich in medium chair fatty acids is known to inactive a number of pathogenic organisms. Its antibacterial, antiviral and antiprotozoal, activities are well documented. Dr. DS Rawat, a retired ICAR scientist (45 Garh Vihar, P.O. IIP. Mohkampur, Dehradun-248005) has been treating his wife for Alzheimer’s disease with virgin coconut oil supplied by CPCRI for the last 8 months. She has been having 1 table spoon of VCO orally twice a day (VCO by fermentation technique and hot process, alternally).
DR. Rawat writes, his wife has shown remarkable improvement on taking VCO for the treatment of her Alzheimer’s disease durign the last eight months. A slight gain in body weigth could be noticed, her posture improved and her skin has regained its old glow. She is better composed, calmer and responding to what is being told to her. Her fast losing vocabulary has reversed, she sometimes speaks words that she had forgotten for months. She repsonds when called by name and recognizes family members and relatives but cannot call them by name. Her sleep pattern has also improved, though not regular yet. Her digestion has become satisfatory.
Dr. Rawat is happy that VCO has helped his wife very much. He regrets that he could have come across the case study by Dr. Mary Newport few years earlier when his wife was in the first stage of Alzheimer’s disease. Nevertheless, he is happy that he could get good results from VCO and has requested the Institute to supply him more quantity of VCO. The experience of Dr. Rawat stand testimony to the therapeutic benefits of VCO. (CPCRI News).

VCO WITH MULTIVITAMINS

photos taken from here
Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO), an ordinary product with extraordinary capabilities. VCO is rich in saturated fats and more easily digested than fats found in other oil. It has Lauric acid that has anti-viral and anti-bacterial properties, and is the most important essential fatty acid for building and maintaining the body’s immune system. VCO is also known to help increase the body’s metabolism, and is quick source of energy.
Imagine if these benefits can be found in the multivitamins that we drink every day?
Enersel Forte is the first and only  multivitamins with VCO that enhances the body’s immune system by giving it antibacterial and antiviral properties through the release of lauric acid. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which helps in dealing with harmful viruses and bacteria.
Enersel Forte is SEL-J Pharmaceuticals Corporation’s multivitamins for children and young adults with a unique formulation of Vitamins A, B, C, D and E and minerals Niacinamide and Zinc. It also contains Chlorella Growth Factor responsible for height development among children, and the elements Taurin and Lysine.
With Enersel Forte, the New, revolutionary Formula for Giftedness, children and adults can excel in sports, academic, arts and music, and other fields.
“Since we started covering pediatricians, general practitioners and family med doctors, Enersel Forte is being prescribed. Coupled with free clinics and a sensible school program, it is also recognized and bought by parents of children aged 6 months to 12 years old,” SEL-J Pharma Chief Executive Officer Jay Lacnit says.
When SEL-J launched Enersel Forte, the company also held a medical mission for children in Laguna, where free medicines and vitamins were given after consultation with physicians. (http://www.malaya.com.ph)

VCO Is An Exclusive Product

picture taken from here
Although it has been known for a long time and proved to have many benefits and advantages, still VCO is an exclusive product.  This indicated that the industry community has not been widely used VCO as a raw material. This happens because most of the industry is oriented towards the middle, as the majority of the population who have the purchasing power of a product. When using the VCO as raw material, the quality of their products will increase but the consequence will also increase the price of the product prices.

If the public awareness of the importance of a quality product increase then automatically VCO-based products will be preferred. The good quality VCO  as raw material as well as being one of the determinants of product quality.

Avoid Fermentation To Improve The Quality of VCO

Currently there are many methods for producing VCO. Basically, all methods can be used as long as itis capable of producing a high quality product VCO.  Economic considerations are another factor related to its business activities.

One of parameters of the VCO quality is lauric acid content. High levels of lauric acid come from good raw materials and good manufacturing processes. Good raw material comes from an old coconut fruits that indicated with blackish brown husk  and dark brown shell, thick and hard. The flesh is also much thicker than the young coconut fruits.

While good process is indicated by the maintained important contents in the VCO and remain economically viable. One of the problems in the process of manufacturing  VCO is the fermentation that causes lauric acid content is low. Fermentation is due to non-sterile production process, including raw materials used, the means of production and the environment.

In many cases the traditional industry is difficult to produce quality VCO due to lack of knowledge onhygiene factors and the production process. So as to avoid fermentation, it is necessary to make the production process as sterile as possible. If the process has been performed in sterile and produce VCOwith high lauric acid content, the next process is the usual purification, the lower the moisture content up tothe allowable level (typically <0.1%).

High quality
VCO will provide optimum benefit for you. So before you eat them thoroughly first the VCO products, because not all VCO have the same quality.

Common Problems when buying VCO from Community

The most common problem encountered when buying VCO from the community is, rancidity and high water content. Rancidity is a sign that the VCO has been damaged, the organoleptic not feel fresh. VCO damage from rancidity  is free radicals or free fatty acids that would be bad for the body's metabolism. Long contact between oil and water at the manufacturing process  also accelerate the oil rancidity. Bad packaging also resulted in these rancidity.

While high water content  will make the VCO looks cloudy, visible layer at the bottom of the pack and will accelerate the destruction of oil through the hydrolysis reaction. This high water content caused by phase separation of oil and water are not good, so much water from ending up on oil.

Only fresh VCO  is consumable and good for the health effect. Be careful to get good quality VCO. Select only VCO that has used modern technology to manufacture.

Modernization of VCO Industry in Indonesia

Organic VCO Plant
As the owner of the world's largest coconut plantation with coconut production number 2 after the Philippine, Indonesia needs to modernize its VCO Industry. While there are still many rural VCO is made by traditional tools and modern industry has not applied, then the steps to get there need to be initiated. Some common problems encountered in VCO production scale home industries are:
1.    Hygiene process. The use of simple tools and supporting materials such as water quality uncontrolled make good hygiene is difficult to achieve. In addition, the selection of such an unhealthy place close to the corral hygiene contributed to aspects of the production process VCO. The use of sterile water will greatly affect the hygiene of VCO.

2.    High water content contained in VCO products. High water content in oil can be easily damaged VCO made by hydrolysis.

3.    Production Capacity. To pursue the capacity of medium-and large-scale production of the continuity of raw materials and production unit in the form of adequate plant needs to be put in such a way. Upstream sector of the internsif coconut cultivation should be encouraged.

4.    Organic certification. Although he was almost certain that pure coconut trees in Indonesia as organic since there is no additional chemical fertilizers and other inorganic chemicals, but official certification is required. This is for the benefit of trust with business partners and the price of the VCO itself.

5.    Integrated industry. Coconut as a plant believed to all parts of life that can be exploited, so that the necessary efforts to increase the value added by making use of everything. Coconut water is used as raw materials nata de coco and recent research that the water from poor phase coconut oil can also be used for the manufacture of nata de coco, this means no water being dumped in the manufacture of VCO. Waste for animal feed and blondo for the biscuit.

Coconut shell is made charcoal or biochar by pyrolysis process  thus be further processed into briquettes and activated charcoal. Modern technology of this now available, with  continuous pyrolysis technology capacities from 20 tons / day - 200 tons / day of INPUT. For more information please visit at cmc-indo.blogspot.com

Coconut fiber (coco fiber) can be used as raw material for the manufacture of car seats and spring bed  because of a good fiber quality. The market is still very open, so there is no reason to ignore it. Waste production of coconut fiber that is coco dust  also can be made charcoal with continous pyrolysis technology  for making briquette (renewable energy application) , and with the excess heat used to dry the coco fiber at the process.

Let’s do it!

The New Health Oils for this Millenium: a bright future for an industry adapted from Jon J.Kabara, Ph.D

Never before in the history of man is it so important to emphasize the value of Lauric Oils. The medium-chain fats in coconut oil are similar to fats in mother’s milk and have similar nutriceutical effects.

Since that time monolaurin has found use in cosmetic, pharmaceuticals and in clinical medicine. Monolaurin as a dietary supplement  has shown extraordinary and exciting results as an antibiotic and as an antiviral agent.
The latter property against lipid coated viruses was first demonstrated by Hierholzer and Kabara more than sixteen years ago. Since that time our studies have been confirmed and extended by others. Literature references for the use of monolaurin are now appearing at an increasing rate showing application in dental cares, peptic ulcers, benign prostatic hyperplasia, genital herpes, hepatitis C as well as HIV/AIDS. After years of neglect by others I have finally convinced the medical community and now important clinical studies are finally increasing at a rapid pace.

Kabara's prediction at an international conference of the American Oil Chemist Society(1995) that these tropical oil derivatives were going to be the new health oils for the next millennium is coming true. Not only does monolaurin have antibiotic and antiviral activity but also these remarkable derivatives have been
shown not to cause resistance organisms to appear.  In addition, it  has now been shown that monolaurin can reduce the resistance of germs to antibiotics.
The medium chain fatty acids and monoglycerides found primarily in these two tropical oils and mothers milk have miraculous healing power.

Never before in recent times has  recognition of the positive health effects of  tropical oils been stronger. New and exciting health and industrial uses of monolaurin are available and predictable. Monolaurin derived from coconut and palm kernel oils suggest a bright future for an industry that was once referred to as a "sunset industry".  This means that the oil industry must move quickly to modernize itself in making  value added products from these oils which will  contribute to a more vigorous and healthy agriculture future.

HEALTH OILS FROM THE TREE OF LIFE (NUTRITIONAL AND HEALTH ASPECTS OF COCONUT OIL) adapted from Jon J. Kabara, Ph.D*

Coconut Tree
Coconut and palm tree has a long history of providing man with useful materials for his daily life. None is more important than the oils obtained from these coconut and palm nut. Coconut and palm kernel oils were recognized as health oils in Ayurvedic medicine almost 4000 years ago.

The same health effects were also found in Sanskrit medicine for mother’s milk. Mention was made that freshly expressed human milk was adopted as an "antibiotic" after eye surgery. Modern research has now found a common link between these two natural health products----their fat or lipid content.

For over thirty years Kabara's lipid laboratory has pioneered finding relationships between natural and synthetic lipids and their biological activity. Kabara indicated that the fatty acids and monoglycerides found in these two natural products had extraordinary antimicrobial properties.

Over a period of 30 years his teams screened other lipids hoping too improve on nature. During this period they screened some 300 lipids and other structures for antimicrobial activity.

His team failed and so Kabara returned to nature for clues. The medium chain fatty acids and monoglycerides found primarily in these two
Monolaurin
tropical oils and mothers milk have miraculous healing power. It is rare in thehistory of medicine to find substances that have such useful properties and still be without toxicity or even harmful side effects.
